Comfort in Koreatown: The LINE Hotel, LA
Tucked between Hollywood and Downtown LA, The LINE Hotel is a true beacon of creative expression, comfort and style.
Created by the Sydell Group, the hotel sets out to capture the 24-hour energy of the Koreatown neighbourhood, drawing in a hip and urban 20-something crowd with its industrial-chic aesthetic, trendy restaurants/bar and the in-house, retro inspired nightclub which is open every night of the week.
The hotel has 384 rooms, with floor-to-ceiling windows providing guests with spectacular views of the Hollywood Hills and the Griffith Observatory. We arrived on a moody Wednesday afternoon, still taken aback by the majestic grey clouds and the swath of palm trees perfectly juxtaposed against the scenic foreground. At night, the room was lit by the colourful, low hanging lamps which gave off a soft and soothing ambience … an alternate vibe to the busy nightlife and lively action taking place on the strip below.
The rooms are equipped with free WiFi, built-in bed desks, automatic blackout blinds, an iPod/iPhone dock, Baxter of California bath products and a minibar with American and Korean drinks and snacks.
Sidenote: I’ve clearly been living under a rock because I did not know that Wine in a Can was a thing until this moment!
Food & Drinks
Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a late night bite, you can satisfy your craving through one of the many eateries on the property. Grab a quick coffee/tea at Alfred’s, the cafe conveniently located in the lobby or kick back and grab some inventive cocktails at the hotel’s classic Lobby Bar.
Housed in a luscious greenhouse, the hotel’s restaurant, Openaire, is well know for its aesthetics and attracts crowds from young and old with its delicious and seasonal dishes. The restaurant serves up breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner and is notorious for booking out regularly on OpenTable.
Power Lunch Tip: Looking for a sensory overload?
Start your course off with the Smoked Beets with Almond, Horseradish, Fried Onions and Lemon before moving on to the Spice Crusted Salmon, paired with Quinoa, Broccoli and Pistachio Butter.
My experience at Openaire was pleasant and refreshing and the service was bar none! I may be a bit biased because the warm+friendly hostess who welcomed me was also named Jennifer, but this was without a doubt my favourite part of my stay. Of course the food itself was delicious but I kid you not when I say that EVERY member of the staff was so friendly and welcoming and truly dedicated to providing the best service they could for their customers. I mean, the bartender dedicated 15-minutes of his time helping me select options from the menu and checked on me at the end of every dish to ensure that I was satisfied — now that’s what I call good service!
The hotel offers free WiFi throughout the property, a 24-hour gym and Linus bicycles for rent – the first four hours are free. On the second floor of the hotel, the outdoor rooftop pool is surrounded with citrus trees and sun-lounging chairs for relaxation.
Lay back with your favourite book in the Gramercy Garden or chill out with friends playing Ping Pong or Foosball on the Bonnie Brae terrace, both located on the second floor.
Rooms start at $190USD ($249CAD) per night.
